Telford Slings – hire terms and conditions
Thank you for hiring a baby carrier from the Telford Slings!
We hope you and your child enjoy using it. These are your hire terms and conditions, which you agree to when you hire a sling from us.
We use your details from your online hire booking or when in person for recording the details of your baby carrier hire.
We will only keep your personal details in accordance with GDPR, and we will only use them to contact you in relation to your carrier hire or to inform you of new workshops, consultations or other important dates.
Your online reservation or your in-person hire from Telford Slings is your acceptance that you agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions. Your agreement to the Terms and Conditions includes that you will/have checked the carrier that you have hired, and that there are no defects or damages. We will also send you an online link to these Terms and Conditions.
Hire Cost and Duration
Sling and carrier loans are subject to availability and suitability. You may borrow up to 2 carriers at one time.
Prices are as follows:
£15 per 4 weeks per sling/carrier or £10 per 2 weeks, or for babies less than 3 months you can choose: £20 per 8 weeks for stretchy wrap or Close Caboo hire.
The minimum hire period is two weeks. If hiring for two weeks, you will need to hire from the sling library session and return at a sling meet. In exceptional circumstances we can hire at a sling meet if agreed in advance to ensure we bring the carrier of your choice. Hire fees are non-refundable. Ongoing support at sling meets and online via Facebook is included in your hire fee.
We take your card details or a deposit as security for the carrier hire. We will only use your card if your hire carrier is returned damaged or if you fail to return it or parts of it (accessories/instructions/bag/box/etc.) You will need to bring photographic ID and proof of address to the sling library hire session before hiring a carrier (a photo driving licence is perfect as it includes both.)
You will pay the replacement cost of any lost carriers or accessories. We will deduct the relevant sum from your debit or credit card. In cases of damage, you will pay the replacement cost of the damaged carrier. We will judge charges for items that are damaged (beyond normal wear and tear) on a case by case basis, and you will pay those charges.
Card details are stored by Stripe through our myTurn online library catalogue instead of a deposit being taken. We do not have access to any card details. If you do not have a debit or credit card, deposits may be given by bank transfer or through PayPal via the Friends and Family option. Our PayPal address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Extending your loan
You must advise us in writing 24 hours before the return date if you want to extend your loan period, and providing no-one else has reserved it you will be allowed to extend the reservation a further one time.
Returning slings and carriers
Please return your carrier on its due date. Late return of slings will result in a late charge of £5, plus hire extension charge of a fortnight's hire. We will deduct this late fee from your card.
ONLY return your hire carrier to a Telford Slings hire session or sling meet, to either Helen or one of the Telford Slings team. DO NOT return carriers to the sling meet venue or to any other address as they are not responsible for the slings and have no space to store them.
Please contact us in writing before the end of the hire period if you will be late returning your hire sling, so that we can arrange a hire extension. We may reduce fees for late returns, in exceptional circumstances, at our discretion.
If we do not hear from you within 30 days of the sling return date, we will consider the carrier lost and keep your full deposit or the replacement cost of the carrier.
We will always make several attempts to contact you but we will refer cases to the small claims court if you fail to return your hired carrier in spite of this. The small claims court action will aim to recoup the full replacement cost of the carrier, as well as any outstanding hire fees.
Condition of the Sling/Carrier
We check all slings and carriers before we lend them out, to ensure that they are in good condition. As the hirer you should also check the condition of the carrier prior to the start of the loan and before each use. Check all buckles, hems and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, cracks or holes. If you notice anything, stop using the sling and contact us immediately.
Damaged or Lost Carriers
If a sling becomes damaged while you are hiring it, please contact us immediately and do not use the sling any further for your baby’s safety. You will pay the full replacement cost of any lost or damaged carriers, accessories or instructions.
Safe Use of Carriers
We provide manufacturer’s instructions for safe use of all carriers, either on the sling library online booking system (myTurn) or by email as an online link. If they are not supplied, it is your responsibility as the borrower to ask for a copy of the manufacturer’s instructions.
All our slings are safe when used properly. Misuse may cause injury to yourself or child. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are using the carrier correctly and that your baby is safe at all times. Telford Slings is not responsible for any accident that results in injury or death whilst the carrier is in your care.
We suggest that after familiarising yourself with the relevant instructions, that you practice using the carrier with a doll, teddy or cushion so that you get used to tying, fastening and adjusting the carrier. Always ensure that you seat your child correctly in the carrier and check any knots regularly - children do not stay still and straps and wrap passes can move or become loosened.
If you feel any pain while carrying your child, change the carrying position or remove the carrier. If you are unsure about anything you read in the instructions, please ask us.
Please always remember the following sling safety guidelines:
• Breathing: baby needs clear airways with no fabric or anything else blocking their mouth and nose
• Positioning: chin must be off their chest
• Fall hazard: make sure baby is safe from falling
• Temperature: ensure baby is not at risk from overheating or dehydration
• Alert: be alert and responsive to baby at all times
Looking after your sling
Please look after your sling carefully.
Please do not smoke while wearing or holding the carrier. Please do not use the sling in smoky environments, including your home if anyone living there smokes inside the home. Please inform us if you are a smoker, or there is a smoker in your home as we will need to carefully launder the carrier after it is returned. Smoking may increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and these risks have also been linked to babies being in close contact with clothing or objects contaminated with smoke particles.
Please keep the sling away from pets, as the next family to use it may have an allergy.
Food and posset marks are normal when carrying children, but please keep the sling away from anything that may cause more permanent stains (oil, paint, pens, hair or make up products, nail varnish etc), or anything that might damage it (e.g. scissors, velcro, keys in your bag, fire). You will pay the full replacement cost for any sling that has been damaged beyond normal wear and tear.
Your carrier may come with suck pads (to protect the straps from damage from children chewing on the straps) and/or a chest strap. Please do not lose the suck pads or the chest strap. These items will be needed by the next family hiring it and the cost of replacement will be taken from your deposit.
We cannot guarantee that there are no marks or hairs on the carriers we lend. Carriers are spot-cleaned and only laundered if necessary as freshly washed carriers will not be as soft or flexible as those that are not. If you would prefer to use a freshly laundered carrier please contact us to request this before you borrow.
Do not wash the sling. We clean all carriers regularly and know how to deal with the usual marks. Spot cleaning with plain water is the safest if you have any accidents. You can wash the suck pads using the guidance below. If do you need to clean your carrier, please contact Telford Slings first. Many slings have particular advice to ensure they do not lose their shape and structure.
If, after contacting Telford Slings, you DO clean your carrier, please:
*Use non-biological liquid (such as Ecover or Eucalan, to avoid exacerbating allergies in the next user)
*NO optical brighteners (these are listed in the ingredients and can damage fabric)
*NO fabric conditioner (they make the fabric fibres and buckles slippy)
*NO tumble drying, air dry as flat as possible
*For buckled carriers, please close all buckles and wash the carrier inside a pillowcase
*For Velcro carriers, please close the Velcro together and wash inside a pillowcase
*For ring slings and Close Caboos, place socks tightly over each ring and then wash inside a pillowcase
All slings, carriers, instructions and accessories remain the property of Telford Slings at all times, and all loans are subject to availability and at our discretion.
We as Telford Slings regularly update our catalogue so keep checking back or let us know if there is anything specific you are after that we don’t yet have.
